RIHP
The RIHP Hospital was started 3 decades ago (1967) as America-India
Dispensary (AID) and slowly developed into a Hospital. Though
the idea of establishing a rural based medical institution
was noble, the institution could not be self-sustaining because
of remoteness, and also because other hospitals and private
practitioners soon mushroomed in and around Ammathi, immediately
after establishment of RIHP. In 1971, the Americans withdrew
support and handed over the Hospital to the local Trustees.
RIHP entered an era of severe
financial crisis, since no external aid was forth coming, and the local donations
were insufficient. Tata Coffee Ltd. accepted the responsibility of reviving
the Hospital and started giving total assistance in the Management and running
of this Hospital. With the administrative and managerial assistance, the affairs
of the Hospital have improved considerably in the recent years. The occupancy
and the utilisation level have shown a healthy upward trend and there has been
a qualitative improvement in the medicare facilities provided by the Hospital
and the people of Coorg are indeed happy with the services rendered.
The
Coorg Foundation
The Coorg Foundation, a Public Charitable Trust established
by the Company has been in operation for the past one decade
and continues to promote welfare activates. During the year,
the Foundation made contributions towards treatment of individuals
afflicted with serious illness and made donations to medical
institution for conducting free medical camps. The Foundation
also conducted a domestic nurse training programme for the
unemployed rural women n association with Rural India Health
Project Hospital , Ammathi.
To further the objective of education, the
Foundation rewarded meritorious students and provided scholarships
to students studying professional courses. Grants were given
to institutions to upgrade their science laboratories and
to conduct exhibitions, quiz competitions & sports.
The Foundation continues to provide opportunity
to the rural children in the field of culture by conducting
residential art-in-acting workshops at Taluk level. The Talacauvery
Tapovana, project for restoration of natural forest at Talacauvery
is coming up well and a scientific study is being conducted.
