RIHP

The RIHP Hospital was started 3 decades ago (1967) as America-India Dispensary (AID) and slowly developed into a Hospital. Though the idea of establishing a rural based medical institution was noble, the institution could not be self-sustaining because of remoteness, and also because other hospitals and private practitioners soon mushroomed in and around Ammathi, immediately after establishment of RIHP. In 1971, the Americans withdrew support and handed over the Hospital to the local Trustees.

RIHP entered an era of severe financial crisis, since no external aid was forth coming, and the local donations were insufficient.

Tata Coffee Ltd. accepted the responsibility of reviving the Hospital and started giving total assistance in the Management and running of this Hospital. With the administrative and managerial assistance, the affairs of the Hospital have improved considerably in the recent years. The occupancy and the utilisation level have shown a healthy upward trend and there has been a qualitative improvement in the medicare facilities provided by the Hospital and the people of Coorg are indeed happy with the services rendered.

The Coorg Foundation

The Coorg Foundation, a Public Charitable Trust established by the Company has been in operation for the past one decade and continues to promote welfare activates. During the year, the Foundation made contributions towards treatment of individuals afflicted with serious illness and made donations to medical institution for conducting free medical camps. The Foundation also conducted a domestic nurse training programme for the unemployed rural women n association with Rural India Health Project Hospital , Ammathi.

To further the objective of education, the Foundation rewarded meritorious students and provided scholarships to students studying professional courses. Grants were given to institutions to upgrade their science laboratories and to conduct exhibitions, quiz competitions & sports.

The Foundation continues to provide opportunity to the rural children in the field of culture by conducting residential art-in-acting workshops at Taluk level. The Talacauvery Tapovana, project for restoration of natural forest at Talacauvery is coming up well and a scientific study is being conducted.

Conscofe General Public Charitable Trust

The Conscofe General Public Charitable Trust under the auspices of CCL (now Tata Coffee Ltd.), was registered in 1986, with the aim and object of adopting Pollibetta or any of the surrounding villages or any other villages in Kodagu District or any where in Karnataka State for the purpose of development and the provision of Public Utilities and amenities.

CCL Small Growers Development Scheme

The Small Growers Development Scheme, started in 1985, proved to be a big boon for 140 small coffee growers who have been the beneficiaries of this scheme.

Under the Scheme, the Small growers are helped to maximise their returns from their land, with timely advice in scientific methods of cultivation and free supplies of high yielding, disease resistant Arabica and Robusta coffee plants, pepper cuttings, silver oak seedlings and fertilizers. Their holding have now been fully planted with coffee and subsidiary crops / timber such as pepper and silver oak. Thanks to Tata Coffee's active intervention, the yield of coffee and pepper have improved and the small growers are happy with the assistance received in improving the value of their small holdings.

Conscofe Employees Welfare Trust

To strengthen the bond further with its employees, Consolidated Coffee (Tata Coffee Ltd) has launched Conscofe Employees Welfare Trust to take care of the housing, education / scholarships, pension benefits etc. of its employees. This has benefited a large section of the employees of Tata Coffee Ltd.
