Tea was first planted on this Estate in 1915 in the
Anamallai's District and comprises mostly of Assam
Jat type of tea. The Estate is located at an elevation
of 3746 feet above Mean Sea Level overlooking the
Sholayar Reservoir. The Estate comprises of 3 Divisions
namely Lower Division, Upper Division, and No. 2 Division
covering 429.65 Ha. of planted mature tea. The area
under No. 2 Division earlier belonged to Selaliparai
Estate but the area lying west of the reservoir was
later amalgamated with Uralikal Estate in 1967 and
was named as No. 2 Division.
The Estate has a CTC Factory producing CTC teas of
good quality. The earlier Orthodox Factory was reduced
to ashes after a devasting fire which broke out in
1986.
The Estate is frequently visited by Elephants and
Bison in large numbers, Wild dogs, Panthers, Sambhar's,
Barking Deer etc. The Estate has a wide variety of
flora and fauna with thick jungle sholas which act
as a pathway for wild animals to move around. The
Estate employs 894 permanent workers under its roll.
